Repipes and Slab Leaks

Keep pressure constant at a range of 45 psi to 65 psi to avoid repipes. Very high pressure in your houseline plumbing may eventually result in water leaks. To avoid high pressure, keep the pressure to your houseline plumbing at a safe, constant pressure. Safe pressure to your home should range from 45 psi to 65 psi. A pressure regulator installed where the water ties in to the houseline plumbing will keep the pressure constant.

A repipe or re-routing of your water system may be a solution if you:

  • Have a slab leak.

  • Have had a previous slab leak and may be worried that another slab leak may occur.

  • Are seeing signs of leaks in other areas of your home.

  • Would like to increase the volume of water to your home.

It is a Cost Effective Measure to Avoid Breaking the Concrete Slab.

Not breaking the concrete slab saves dollars. Instead of breaking the concrete slab along with the expense of replacing carpet and flooring, we recommend and feel a cost effective solution is to re-route the existing water system.

There may be some plumbers that recommend a repipe to their clients saying that galvanized pipes erode with age, and therefore, rust and sediment may leach into the fresh water lines.

The truth is that in the Temecula Valley, that's very unlikely because our homes and commercial buildings are newer, and were built with soft, flexible copper in the slab. Even older tracts in our area built in the late 1980s were not built with galvanized pipe.

It's True in LA and San Diego's Older Areas - But Not Here in the Temecula Valley and Surrounding Area

Homes in older areas of Los Angeles and San Diego (some very old areas) were built with galvanized pipe. Because galvanized pipe erodes with age, there may be some leaching of rust, sediment and debris into the fresh water lines in LA and San Diego area homes.

However, and we need to stress again, that in our area, that is not usually the case.

If a plumber recommends that a repipe is needed because there is rust and sediment leaching into your fresh water lines, it's just not true for residences and commercial structures in Southwest Riverside County!

The reason to repipe or re-routing of your houseline plumbing is to avoid leaks and increase the volume of water, not to stop rust from leaching into your fresh water system.
